What We Believe

“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”
Revelation 4:11

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of Christ Community Church of Davis County - IA based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

God

We believe that God eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that God created Heaven and Earth, and that God sustains all life. (Genesis 1:1)

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully man, the only begotten Son of the Father and the fulfillment of God’s plan from the beginning (John 1:1-18). He was born of the Virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit. He died on the Cross for our sins and rose from the dead in bodily form on the third day.  He then ascended into Heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father, making intercession for us. We believe that He will return to judge the living and the dead. (Matthew 1:20-21; Corinthians 15:20-24; John 20:15-17; Acts 1:9-11; Acts 4:10)

The Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead, co-eternal with the Father and the Son.  We believe the Spirit came to dwell in those who believe in Christ and that He serves by convicting us of sin, comforting and sanctifying those who believe, and guiding us in all truth. (Acts 1:8; Romans 8:26-27)

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is fully inspired by the Holy Spirit and is the true Word of God for His people. Through authors inspired by the Spirit, God has spoken to us, and His Word is inerrant and infallible.  It guides us in truth and Christian living. We believe what Paul told Timothy: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16)

The Nature of Humanity

Sanctity of Life

We believe that human beings were created in the image of God and, therefore all human beings at all stages of existence, from conception to death, are of inestimable worth. (Psalm 139: 13-14)

Original Sin

We believe that the original human beings chose to turn away from God, and therefore all human beings are sinful by nature. Human beings can only be made righteous in God’s sight through the redeeming work of Jesus on the Cross. (Genesis 3:5-7; 2 Corinthians 5:21)

Eternal Destiny

We believe that those who choose to put their faith in Christ will be with God when they leave their earthly lives. We also believe that some people will choose not to follow Christ and instead be eternally separated from God in hell. We believe that no one comes to the Father except through faith in Jesus Christ. Salvation is by God’s grace alone, not through our own work and efforts. (John 14:6; Eph. 2:8)

Salvation

We believe that God desires that none should perish but all should come to eternal life.  Therefore, He desires that all should accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, repent of their sins, and enter His Kingdom both in this life and the next. We therefore believe that all who call upon the name of Jesus will be saved. Those who are redeemed by Christ’s sacrificial atonement on the Cross will experience the joy of His presence and the glorious restoration in the New Heaven and the New Earth. (2 Peter 3:9; Romans 10:13; 1 Timothy 2:4)

The Church

We believe in the universal church of all believers – past, present and future. The Church is comprised of all those who put their faith in Christ. As Paul says in Galatians 3:28, “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”  The Church’s identity is anchored in Christ alone, and not the boundaries human beings create.

Return of Christ

We believe in the future bodily return of Jesus at a time known only to God. We believe that He will reign forever and ever in the New Heaven and New Earth. This hope motivates and energizes our Christian lives. (Matthew 24:29-30, 36; Acts 1:6-7; Luke 21:27-28)
